2006-2007
It
is a program of religious awareness and readiness for preschoolers.
It
is held during the 9:30 mass.
They
are held at St. Mary School in the primary classrooms on the first floor. Classes are divided by age.
The
program is open for children ages 3, 4, and 5 (all by October 1)
The
program has a director who oversees the entire program.
For
each age level, we have an adult lead teacher, an adult co-teacher, parent
helpers and student helpers. The lead
teachers will be the same person each week for each class. The co-teachers, parent helpers and student
helpers assist teaching on a rotational basis.
The lead teachers are provided with lesson plans for the week. Each teacher will then give direction to the
co-teachers and helpers. The
requirements of all volunteers are to love God and want to share that with the
children.
What
training is required for the teachers, co-teachers and parent helpers?
All
adults helping and interacting with the children are required to complete
Virtus Training. For more information
and how to register for training, visit the following Virtus website address:
https://www.virtusonline.org/mytraining/live_registration.cfm.
How
Many children are in a class?
We
try to keep the classes to a maximum of 15.
We
have a combination of pre-planned lessons and lessons from books approved by
the Diocese of Covington. We will be
using the ‘I Am Special’ curriculum.
Classes
begin September 17th and run through April 22nd.
Registration
is at the end of the school year and in August and September, up to opening
day.
There
is a fee of $30 per child per year, which helps to pay for the supplies used,
the teachers’ manuals, the take-home sheets, items for celebration, and a cloth
bag, etc. The fee is to be paid
on or before opening day.
Where
should I enter on Opening Day and each week?
Always
enter through the doors to the school cafeteria.
